In May 1909, 21 year old John and 18 year old Laura were wed. For 38 years they lived, laughed, and loved.
Although he died before his youngest grandchild, my mother, was born, his family kept his memory alive through stories and photographs.
Laura survived him for 27 years, seeing that youngest grandchild married and settled.
I have many photographs of them over the years, but the two in the image above are my favorites: their wedding day in 1909, and a random day around 1945 — two short years before his death.
The formal wedding photo captures their hopes, their dreams, their future.
The informal snapshot captures their love, their laughter, their history.
